Big Carmel Project Clears Hurdle
The Carmel Plan Commission has approved a proposal for a 63-acre business development on the city's westside. Developers say “The Bridges” would include retail, office and restaurant space. The proposal goes to the Carmel City Council next month. The commission approved the $100 million project by a vote of 8-2. People living in the area will be able to give their opinions on the project at the city council meeting in June. Some have expressed concern about the development lowering property values and causing traffic problems. Developers say they have done extensive studies and do not see traffic or dropping property values becoming a problem. They hope to break ground some time next year.
