Czech Company Opens First Ever U.S. Plant
BOONE – Governor Chet Culver today participated in an investment agreement signing ceremony to mark the end of negotiations between CGS TYRES and the Iowa Department of Economic Development, resulting in the selection of Charles City as the location of a new CGS manufacturing facility that will produce farm radial tires for the North American market. Several representatives from the Czech Republic and CGS TYRES were in attendance, including CGS owners Tomas Nemec and Oldrich Slemr, and Josef Dvoracek, head of the Commercial and Economic Section for the Czech Republic.
The
IDED board awarded $924,000 from the Grow Iowa Values Fund to CGS Tires
U.S., Inc., to support 154 of the 192 total jobs to be created by future prodcution in Charles City. It represents the first manufacturing facility
in North America for parent company CGS, based in the Czech Republic.
This $43.8 million project will reconfigure the former Winnebago
Industries manufacturing facility to accommodate the production of
its Mitas and Continental brands of radial tractor tires and harvester tires, among other tire
products.
“This is a win for Iowa, as yet another company, like 261 before it in the last 36 months alone, has been recruited to locate or expand in Iowa," Culver said Tuesday. "This is the great work of the citizen board of directors and professional staff with the Iowa Department of Economic Development."
