The head of the state's economic development unit says he can't recall a week in which Indiana has had announcements involving 2,000 new jobs. Indiana Secretary of Commerce Mitch Roob, who also serves as chief executive officer of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation, says it has been a "fantastic week" for Indiana, and after a slow summer, the pace of economic development deals really picked up.

Today, Progress Rail Services revealed plans for a manufacturing facility in Muncie involving 650 jobs, while Ascension Health said it would locate a professional service center in Indianapolis and create up to 500 positions.

On Tuesday, ExactTarget Inc. announced plans for 500 more jobs in Indianapolis and Cummins Inc. announced its intention to create 350 additional jobs as part of its global headquarters in Columbus.

All these deals come as the state unemployment rate continues to hover around 10 percent.
