Unique Deal Saves Hoosier Jobs
A new agreement is expected to bring new work to an Indianapolis foundry and renewal to an eastside neighborhood. Navistar International Corp. announced in January 2009 plans to close the facility, but during negotiations with the United Auto Workers reached an agreement that created Pure Power Technologies.
Pure Power Vice President Rick Bacon says the company will continue to supply Navistar, but it can also seek other customers.
UAW Local 226 President Gary Canter also says the union has been talking with federal, state and local officials on what it can do to help improve the community and neighborhoods surrounding the plant.
