The Aerospace indusrty in Illinois is mainly based around the city of Rockford , app 150 miles west of Chicago. The Rockford region is strategically located in the heart of the Midwest, providing excellent access to markets via 3 interstate, 2 federal and 9 state highways. Global III, Union Pacific Railroad’s intermodal hub is located just 30 miles south of the area.
Chicago/Rockford International airport (RFD) is the 26th largest aircargo airport in the United States and home to the 2nd largest UPS air hub in the nation. 

The Rockford region is home to five major tier one aerospace supply companies: Hamilton Sundstrand, Woodward, B/E Aerospace, Mag Aerospace Industries, Inc. and Supplycore, plus a strong cluster of supply chain partners consisting of approximately 89 second and third tier suppliers, totalling over 6,000 employees. The Rockford region employs over 4,000 engineers, more than 500 in aerospace. More engineers per capita are employed here than in any of our competitor regions:1.5 times more than the Illinois average and 1.3 times the U.S. average. Rockford is home to two major power management companies: Hamilton Sundstrand (subsidiary of United Technologies Corp.) and Woodward.
