In Kentucky horsepower feels home - it is one of the US’ premier automotive power centers!

Kentucky ranks 3rd among the 50 states in light vehicle production, nearly 10% of all cars / light trucks made in the US are assembled in Kentucky's four plants.
Ford, General Motors and Toyota each have assembly plants located in the Bluegrass State.

Major European Automotive companies operating out of Kentucky include Autoliv , CTS, McKechnie (2 facilities), KnorrBremse, Montaplast, MUBEA, SKF (3), Grupo Antolin, Trelleborg and Webasto (2).

The automobile industry has significantly impacted the Kentucky economy in a positive manner.   Some 20,000 people are employed in motor vehicle production plus some 500 auto-related suppliers with over 87,000 jobs.  Kentucky’s total work force employed in the automotive sector is about 2.3%. The motor vehicles industry's gross state product amounts to over $5.4 billion, which is 3.93% of the state's total gross state product (GSP in 2005).  Motor vehicles are currently Kentucky's top export.   In 2006, exports in the automotive industry valued approximately $36 billion.

As automotive plants have moved southward, Kentucky has become centrally located within the "Mid-South auto corridor”.
