South Carolina has an established base of pharmaceutical manufacturers comprised of bulk manufacturers, chemical processors, generic and proprietary drug makers, hygiene product producers and packagers.  Internationally recognized names such as Bausch & Lomb, Pfizer’s Capsugel, GlaxoSmithKline, Holopack, IRIX Pharmaceuticals, Perrigo and Roche have operations in the state.  There are also research partnerships that support the pharmaceutical industry in South Carolina.  For example, Health Sciences South Carolina is a collaborative network of medical organizations and universities that provides a structure and vehicle for medical research, including clinical trials.
