Siemens announces 300 new jobs in Illinois in a wind energy expansion.

German industrial conglomerate Siemens AG has recently announced that a U.S. unit will invest more than $20 million to build a second plant in Elgin, to meet increasing demands for alternative and renewable energy sources. The Siemens Energy and Automation unit, which makes electrical and electronic products for industrial and construction customers, plans to increase production of wind turbine gears. The new plan is scheduled to be complete by March of 2009 and should create 300 new jobs in production and 55 office positions over the next four years. The current Elgin plant employs 150 people.
