Yellow Book USA, Pindar Set to expand work force in C.R.

CEDAR RAPIDS — Telephone directory publisher Yellow Book USA and its graphics partner, Pindar Set, plan to hire 150  employees in Cedar Rapids over the next few months.

Yellow Book USA, owned by Yell Group of Great Britain, and Pindar Set, a privately owned British company, together employ  about 1,000 in Cedar Rapids.

Jim Haddad, Yellow Book USA chief financial officer, attributed the hiring expansion to new directory launches and growth of the  company’s www.YellowBook.com online directory business.

‘‘This is Yellow Book USA’s largest regional facility,’’ Haddad said. ‘‘This office has grown exponentially over the years as a  result of our acquisition of new companies and directories, our expansion into new markets, and growth in existing markets.’’

In 1986, the Cedar Rapids telephone directory operation employed 50. Today, Yellow Book USA employs about 850 and Pindar  Set has about 150 employees in Cedar Rapids.

Patti Seda, vice president of human resources, said the new jobs would include customer service, administration, management, inside sales, and technology-based support for Yellow Book USA’s Internet products.

At present, Yellow Book employs about 850 and Pindar Set about 150.
